It's the little magnifying glass to the right of Google search results. I constantly brush this when scrolling through results.

It activates a black screen with a side-scrolling display of previews for all of the results. It is a stupid feature to begin with, but is completely useless on a mobile phone as you cannot even see the page previews.

Is there any way to remove the little magnifying glasses? This is extremely irritating and happens to me all the time.

No, I had no idea what you were talking about until I looked at your screenshots. I have never seen that before.

Yes, I do see them on my phone in the mobile Google site, so they are supposed to be there.

I've just never touched one.
