so I dont actually care, this wouldn't be a deal breaker bc like all things we're probably now gonna live with the hump, just like the notch on the phones and currently the laptops, and the Dynamic Island and all the rest of whatever else is in the pipeline.

But I thought it would've been some crazy new exterior sensor for the camera or something, some serious value add not just housing a bunch of electronic parts to make way for a thinner profile or cooler vapor chamber or whatever the combo may be. A 'one last thing' type of add.

from an armchair high level caveman engineering POV, makes sense. from a 'you should love this design because reasons' it's a bit of a fail as a consumer, to me. at least on the Pro.

I think on Air it was a necessity to hit that form factor, but a compromise to be sure. A concession.

On Pro, it feels more like a consistency thing of design language / 'hey we did give you a different camera aesthetic' after all your groveling since iPhone 11 tri-stove Pro even it's not at all an appealing one. The average person who doesn't game or do Final Cut Pro editing on their iPhone may not care about sustained performance IMO.

Anyways I look forward to the staunch defense of the hump and inanimate objects, but understand I truly do not care and have already prefaced this wouldn't be a deal breaker for all the added stuff you get with having newer tech and a newer gen iPhone, but it also wouldn't be compelling design wise. The colors yes, materials switch, lightness and all that yes. But the hump: no.

Just trying to solicit perhaps interesting conversation at best, at worst people rampaging over non starters and all the rest of it. :D

I think it looks fine on the Air and as you said, makes sense as it is likely _required_ to make the rest of the device so thin.

On the Pro/Pro Max, I think it's much uglier, but again, it enables not only the vapor chamber but the _significantly_ larger batteries. And, since it takes up no new vertical space (only horizontal space), there isn't really a negative aside from how it looks.

That being said, the Pro camera system hasn't ever been particularly attractive. So, to me, it's a neutral move, from ugly to ugly, with no real penalty as the camera "plateau" was already the same height and just didn't span the other 50% of the width of the phone. I get making the tradeoff for better thermals and _significantly_ more battery life.

But, the Pro isn't for me. I'm the target market for the Air. So I will be jumping ship!

Something funny about going from three cameras on 12 pro and 14 pro max in my case, to two with 16 plus, to if I were to go Air only one camera ... at non budget $999. Not saying it isn't a concession possibly worth taking for all the other Air benefits and novelties, but even they're marketing that "its really in practice 4 camera lenses"

It may be impressive for what it's working with, but if having more than one lens was futile why would 2 and 3 lens camera arrays exist even comparing 16e to 16/16+ last year and in case of this year, the Pro, being three ALL with 48MP.

Obviously three physical sensors all with 48MP sensors is a preferable configuration.
I don't think they aren't saying it isn't, especially with the presentation of Pro following Air, but one camera isn't nothing. Part of me would feel slightly ripped going from two to one, generational leaps aside.

That said, $999 and 256gb config on base Air is much more compelling pricing than I was expecting. Thought it would've skyrocketed, and to be fair probably has internationally.
