Idk why it does this but every once in a while my phone does this stupid thing while its charging. As you can see, the plug symbol is shown in the battery, however, obviously the phone isnt fully charged. So i have a few questions 1)Does anyone else's phone do this or know why it does this? 2)Does the phone still charge if it has this symbol? and 3)Should i take it to apple for an exchange?

The plug in symbol in the battery means the phone is plugged in charging. The green area in the battery below is the portion that is charged. When it is fully charged the battery is all green. Once you remove the phone from the cable, the plug in symbol goes away. I wouldn't worry about taking it to apple.

No, when it's charging it has a little lightning bolt symbol in the battery that represents 'charging'. When it's full it should turn into the one the OP sees.

No, the symbol normally looks like this when its charging. The plug is when the phone is fully charged...

This happens when the phone is too hot to charge. Happens if you're talking on the phone for a while or maybe playing games for a long time and it's plugged in. It'll look normal again and show the charging icon once it cools off. Happens to me a few times a week. Has on my original 3G and the 3 refurb 3G phones that followed it. Pretty normal.

Why don't you read the manual or read up on icons on Apple's homepage instead of asking it here.

Besides, if there's a problem (which there isn't) it would be software-related, which means there's no need to get a replacement.

Ya this happens to me every so often, im not sure why it happens but its annoying although it doesnt mess up my charging so i just unplug it and plug it back in. Works sometimes and doesnt sometimes. Just ignore it.

Because i had already spoken to an Apple rep at the apple store that had no idea why and because there are 553 people on this forum that can help me right now...so thats why i posted on here:p

It's been talked about in the Dev Center since Beta 4. Hopefully we're near a fix in 3.1. I've spent a lot of time logging and take screenshots to help resolve this.

Do you even own an iPhone? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't.

This has happened to me with my touch. I find that if I take off my case before charging it, it's fine.

Of course, I don't know if you are charging with or without a case.

Well said.

Mine does this many times a day in the summer since I work outside and have to charge the phone 2-3 times a day. Pretty bothersome....but a safeguard i'm sure.

This happens to me alot. I've noticed it's when the phone gets warm. But it's also done it when the phone did not feel warm. So I was a bit concerned. But I geuss it's normal. But what about when using gps in car. It does this almost allways so is it a problem or not ???

Yea my phone does this when i am using safari and its plugged in. It doesnt really feel hot, but i guess its normal.

Happened real bad again. Could not even charge my phone in the car. Even when not using it. I'm calling o2 on Monday.
