I'm debating heavily whether or not to buy the Apple Watch. I've been reading the forum and watching various vids on YouTube, but one thing I (bitterly) realized lately is that the width of the dial on the watch itself is actually rather small compared to the watch's width.

Personally I like my classic analog watch dials slightly bigger (I currently wear a 42 mm classic watch) - in which case 42 mm is the width rather than height - and it seems the 42 mm Apple Watch's dial would appear noticeably smaller on my wrist than my current watch.

Has anyone else been bothered by the size of the dial on Apple Watch? Or is it actually not that bad? (Please note there is no Apple Store near where I live, otherwise I would have tried it in person.)

I have never had a concern with the Digital Crown. I don't think it looks too small or too large for the Apple Watch. I think it's well blended in for what it's worth.

I was referring to the size of the Apple Watch dial, though.

I think the OP is talking about the screen size and basal ratio.

EDIT: Yes OP beat me to it. Most of the analog dials go to near the edge of the screen. The rest past that is basal.

EDIT again. The dials leave room for Complications at bottom and Notification indicator at the top. Notice they go all the way to the edge on the sides because of the screen aspect ratio.

I see what you're saying. I guess I have never even thought of it being a concern or problem, especially given that part of having the dial Allows other features like battery level indicator, sunrise sunset, etc. For complications and customization.

Can honestly say I’ve never noticed it until you pointed it out now. A non-issue to me.

Nah, not a problem for me, either. My regular watches range from 43 to 36 mm (plus a rectangular 1940's Bulova that's maybe 36 x 20 mm at most; plus a digital G-Shock that turns out to be harder to read than any of the others, including the AW).

It's really too bad Apple only has one face that really takes advantage of the shape . . . and you have to buy the Hermes addition to get it. A rectangular face like a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso or Cartier tank or something fits the shape so well.

Yes. It would be great if there were some watch face options that took advantage of the entire size and shape of the face.

....but they DO take advantage of the entire face/screen. In my example what part of the screen do you want more info on and what info?

It is small because they are trying to cram a circle into a rectangle. In real watch terms you're only getting the watch face of an approximately 30-34mm round watch on the 42mm Apple Watch display. A big improvement could be made if Apple didn't make the true rectangular analogue faces exclusive to the expensive Hermes edition but they have shown no desire to do that so far.

the watch is too small period !
they def need to make the watch bigger...this is 2018 not 1980..

It does feel too small compared to my Seiko Monsters or G-shocks. But the 42mm looks nice and is big enough for most dudes. Except this one guy I saw in the Apple Store. He had a 42mm and was looking at watch bands. Had to ask his wrist size. He said it's close to 10"!!! He was not a particularly heavy guy either, just big boned and really big. Looked like a linebacker.

I wouldn't mind 44 or 46mm AW in the future......

So I ended up buying the AW3 Nike+ 42mm version, but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed about how small this watch actually is in reality.. The vids on YouTube can be totally misleading.

Coming off a classic 42mm analogue watch, the dial on AW is embarrassingly small, and the watch itself feels small on my M wrist too...

Otherwise I'm liking the watch, it's just the size (or its 'smallness' for that matter) of it that bothers me.... not sure if I'll be returning it and wait for the Plus version (AW4? AW5??). I really think they should introduce a 46mm model as an option this year.

Argh. Since I cannot change the size of dial on the screen, I could perhaps make the watch appear bigger on my wrist? Would getting a wider leather strap make any difference in perception? I wouldn't really want to buy a bumper case though (or maybe if it looked reeeeaaal slick/elegant).

I've been saying this for 3years now...
i just purchased a Nike AW Series 3 SG coming from the original SS AW

I have always complained about the apple watch being too damn small...its 2018 not 1990 no one wears small watches anymore..

for 2 weeks now i have worn my new one - this am i put my original on and even going to the stainless AW it seems bigger than my space grey (black illusion)

only reason i bought the AW 3 was due to the battery on the original does not get me through the day anymore.
and Im afraid next year they will change the watch since we are going on gen 4..

answer your question about bands...here is one i picked up by case mate.Wide as the watch..
