I have a desktop mac and a macbook. The desktop has all my files and I'd like to be able to access everything my desktop mac has when I am on my macbook. Things like movies, application installers, documents, etc. I went into System Pref > Sharing > File sharing and was able to choose the files that are to be shared but for some reason, the only folders I can access from my Macbook is Public Folder, Lion, and my username folder.
The folders I have put under 'Shared Folders' include: Public folder, Pictures, and my external harddrive connected to my desktop mac called 'Backup'.

However, none of these are showing up when connecting from my macbook, only Public. And lion and my user folder is not shared but they show up any way. The permissions are set so everyone has No Access and the rest (my username) are Read & Write.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

I'd like to add the way I am accessing these files are.. Open Finder window, and on the left side under "Shared" there is my desktop mac. I press "Connect As" and login using my desktop mac's user name and password.

EDIT: Looks like you can't share or access external harddrives and folders on externals, only files that are on the primary hd.
