..The scroll "ball" stopped scrolling up (only down). I suspect something's stuck or broken, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw someone do it on a web site once. They used terms like snap and glue. so I read no further.

The mechanism looked just like an old fashioned mouse ball.

When mine sticks occasionally I use a circular scrolling motion with as much pressure as I can before a click. Failing that I turn it upside down on a clean piece of paper and do circles with it.

Mine's over a year old now and still seems happy.

What seems to be the recommended solution is to get some isopropanol and clean the ball from the outside. Roll it around to get the isopropanol into the socket. You may have to treat it rough to get all the dirt out. Because there are electronics in there, unplug the mouse before you do it, don't use too much isopropanol and let it dry off before you plug it in again.

Yeah I actually just slammed it against the table at an angle a few times and it started working! :D Yay.
