Does anyone know if I can use the tmobile sim in verizon iphone 5 for data only?

I am getting the verizon 6 and then I will have a spare iphone 5 - which I would like to use for google voice with a tmobile nano sim card I picked up when they were .01cents. Does anyone know if I can do that or if I have to get a voice plan too? I want to use it just for google voice.
