on demand?

I was taking a photo (it was indoors with only one lamp on) and thought it looked underexposed and noisy but the camera did not show the night mode icon in the telephoto lens however it did show with the wide lens. When I clicked the picture it was in fact quite underexposed.

I was wondering if there is any way to force it on?

Thanks!

I notice that the icon for it only shows up when the lighting is below a certain threshold, but even then, its not enabled by default until its quite dim.

I'm indoor in a pretty bright room and the icon is visible, though its turned off. I can tap it to turn on night mode even though it's not really needed. In a dark room with just one lamp on I can't see why it wouldn't not only have the icon visible, but enabled as well.

It's really strange the icon is visible and turned off with the wide lens, but it isn't even visible with the telephoto lens (in the dark room with one lamp on)?

I tried taking a picture of my son in the above scenario with both my Xs max and 11 pro max to compare.. And the Xs max came out a touch better?

Maybe there is something wrong with my camera?

Thanks

I've had some success trying to fool the camera by tapping to focus on dark areas, then hitting the button as soon as night sight appears. I need to test it somewhere outside of my house so I can post examples.

Ahhh, my bad, I missed in your original post how you were referring to the telephoto lens. Mine is the same behaviour. Dim environment the night mode icon only appears with the wide lens.

i believe the Night Mode only work with the sensor on the wide lens - not the telephoto one. Probably not on the ultra wide lens either. The Apple website specifically mentions the sensor on he wide angle lens.
