This happens occasionally to me.

Sometimes i will notice that the little "E" will just turn into a dot. I have absolutely no idea what that means..

Thanks

It means the phone is using GPRS, not EDGE. AT&T has been having nationwide network problems lately that have been causing people sometimes to drop to GPRS. It's not just iPhones, and it's certainly not your phone.

It means you've found one of the very wide holes in your cellular provider's coverage.

Yes, it does basically mean you're now using the slowest speed possible for data.

Where'd you hear this from? I haven't seen anything about this until now.

There were slow 3G speeds on launch weekend, but that's largely abated.

I was dropping to GPRS on my iPhone (first gen) and my Blackberry on Tuesday. Other people in my office (downtown Boston) were too. I called AT&T support and they told me that they were having issues.

Definitely not nationwide though. Some other forums would be all over it if it were.
