Are you on a network with Windows computers? Do you have Windows sharing turned on, on your Mac? That daemon handles nameservice and some other tasks in the Samba environment....

I am on my school's network, so yes there are a bunch of windows boxes around. I dont need to network with any of them. Is it something I can turn off, and how would I go about doing that?

Click Apple > System Preferences > Sharing > Ensure 'Windows Sharing' is unchecked
