Does anyone know where I can get a firewire connector?

Hi,

My Lacie hard drive recently broke and the warranty will not cover the repairs. So I decided to investigate why the firewire was not working. I decided to open up the hard drive and discovered that the firewire connector that you plug your firewire cables into which connects to the inside of the hard disk is broken. I removed it to see if it could be mended, but it can't does anyone know where I can buy one of these, as I think it is just a case of attaching a new one of these to the chip inside the hard disk.

Check with your local electronics supply store. Soldering a new connector onto a multilayer printed circuit board requires some soldering skill and the right soldering equipment so you don't overheat and bake the unit.

From looking at the original, that didn't appear to be soldered on. It looks like there are to plastic clips underneath that had some kind of adhesive on them.

The wires are soldered on, and the strain relief cage is either soldered, glued on, screwed on, or clipped on.

Edit: Doesn't take much to do a quick search...
