I just got the 16PM 512 on a promotional deal from carrier - after owning the 15 Pro Max for year - and I absolutely love it! I’m no pixel peeper - so I’m not a stickler on picture quality, as they’re all amazing to me in IQ… and the video quality is amazing - especially with the better compression - 4K @ 120 and ProRaw formats.
I also dig the camera side button - but it took a YouTube video or 2 to figure it out. The battery (I’m on Dev beta) is phenomenal in comparison with my 15PM (which went to my wife… who’s not a phone user, other than text and Bejeweled).

I do have the Adobe Creative Suite and intend on comparing the two still shots side by side of several different shots, but everything else, including the display - IMO, are incredibly satisfying as a year to year update - as well as the speed of the SoC, brighter display, and the battery, as mentioned, is good for at least a couple extra hours of screen on time

I watched and read plenty of the pros n cons about it but I disagree with the idea of it being a disappointment as a year to year update.

I also update from the M1 Max MBP to the M4 Max Studio - and the insane power increase and speed of both single and multi core performance along with the updated en/decoders is amazing. Not a normal increase Y2Y over the M1-2-3 (about 15-20%) where the M4 bounced almost 50% in single core testing and kisses the last (M2) Ultra’s multi core score - graphically, it smokes! And as a creator of primarily audio post production (60%) video editing and grading - to output (25%) with about 10% still editing - I’m saving a lot of time and/or getting more done on the m4 v m1.

To be expected. While the synthetic benching on the iPhone wasn’t as significant as m3 -m4 - the quality of life improvements, sensor and motion capture improvements as well as the speed of recording off cam (to an external T-7 or T-9 SSD) read or write has been beefed up too. I know my 15PM had the same USB-C/Thunderbolt? I/O but it did buffer some while finishing a shoot (before shooting again after pressing stop) - while the 16PM using the same APFS formatted T-9’s speed of capture on the 16PM is, faster, and in some cases - significantly so. If you use the Adobe suite, Logic, FCP or DaVinci on your iPad or Mac, the FCP camera (and standard cam) with their continuity to the Mac or iPad is amazing.

Mine is quicker to mirror my display via Apple TV to my main TV, it’s definitely a good looking phone and I dunno, but it seems like Dynamic Island is more prevalent on the 16 vs 15 - or maybe it’s me lol - but honest question, if you came from the 15Pro or ProMax, do you miss it? Do you wish you’d have waited? I’ve got a family - and hand me downs work fine, with AppleCare+ Theft/Loss into perpetuity (pay by month) and a better display (seemingly for fingerprints/oil) and oleophobic coating, brighter and amazing OLED… I don’t understand the hate of the 16PM. Especially if you’re upgrading from anything before the 15.

IMHO, the 16PM IS the BEST iPhone yet, and I have owned every single iPhone since 2007 - still have (1 of the 2) my OG 4GB 2G/Edge and box, 30 pin cable and charger. While I don’t consider it the iPhone 4/4s update or even to the taller 5 and larger 6’s - the 16 is a killer phone with faster NAND chips (10-15% both R n W) especially the Random(4KB) iops and R/W. Latency has decreased. Mainly the write speeds have increased from my 14 Pro and 15 PM by nearly 50%!

It’s often the little things - when writing using a faster speed signal, the installation is significantly quicker. As are system updates, app updates or downloads, etc.

Lastly the heat of my 15PM while playing a flight simulator or Real Racing 3 (I am > 50, play few games) would get quite hot - I like my iPhones naked, AppleCare is my case. I’m not feeling the same heat on the 16PM, and my battery, to be expected a year old… but I don’t remember it being significantly better in the beginning, is a good 2-3 hours of real use. I can space charging it and it’ll easily make it through two days

Just wondering. I, again, have wife, son and daughter - so there’s a new phone or two each year - and undoubtedly the 16’s been my most enjoyable to date - and apparently I am completely goofy because I LOVE the camera button - it’s feedback and capabilities of adjustments that were usually in a menu 2 or 3 deep… using fingers on your display (picture obscured) while trying to adjust for exposure comp, white balance, focus et al.

I had my iPhone 16 Pro Max out of fear of tariffs and concerns over hefty repair fees from Apple without AppleCare. It is a great iPhone and nice upgrade from iPhone 15 pro max even if it is largely incremental. No more heating while doing video chat. Smoother gaming with less heat while not changing the feel of holding it. I don’t use cases btw. The camera button needs some tweaks but overall it is great.

I came back to iPhone after more than a decade with Android, and I've been very happy with my 16PM. I figured out the Camera Control button right away, but find myself rarely using it. Muscle memory needs work, I guess.

There are a few things I miss about Android, but overall I appreciate being able to Airdrop photos and videos of my new grandchild with my daughter and son-in-law as well as the integration with my other Apple devices.

I went from a XS Pro Max to my 16Pro max. Before retired I used to get new iPhones every other year; because I was doing a lot of things like you do. Don't do that any more. So now I update ever 5 years. it has worked really well for me. I looked moving down from the Pro max, but by the time configured them, the price difference was no big deal. I have a pro max with 1tb. I used to go with 512, but with all the videos and pictures that I get from my 5 kids, 26 grandchildren, and 12 great grand kids, I need all the storage space I can get.

I brought a maxed out 16PM for my partner. I still have my 13PM which is also maxed out, because of my constant fear of running out of storage.
She has been using it for half a year now, and has come across multiple issues.
Mainly Internet connectivity issues, app instability issues, etc. most of them are fixed, but Internet connectivity issues are still present. We live in the UK, both are on the same network operator, and on the same plan. My 13PM never had any such issues. I’ve also come across many smaller issues which I don’t remember now, but in general I would rather keep my phone than upgrading it.

However I love its screen a lot, and the camera is a lot more capable. Also it has better battery life and is lighter than my phone because of titanium build. I tried the camera button but could not get used to it. Also it’s usbc is handy.

That is an astonishingly large family and it’s so amazing that you can enjoy your life with your great grand kids.
On the contrary, I don’t even have a partner living with me yet and I already need to get 1TB iPad. My iPhone still is 512GB.

I love mine.

I don’t particularly love the camera button though. Keep hitting it accidentally. A lot more frequently than I actually intend to use the camera.

I really like mine, I have two of them because I use them a lot for photography and some video. The desert titanium model has had camera issues, that discussion is in the ProRaw issues thread. I had the camera module replaced recently and so far my photos and ProRaw photos are much better & sharper. However, they both may go if the iPhone 17 pro max ends up being a huge camera upgrade. Otherwise, I’ll keep one and upgrade one.

I love the photographic styles, mainly Stark B&W & Amber. I also shoot a ton of ProRaw files. I don’t use the camera button much at all, especially since I can still access the camera from the display. I’m glad I’m not forced to use the camera button, for the most part, it’s barely used.

Love it!

The 16 PM is heavy! I'm ok with the weight, but it's a noticeable bit of heft. My 14 Pro was also pretty heavy for a regular sized iPhone so the bump in overall weight is not a concern. Just something to consider if you're going to buy the 16 PM.

I do wish Apple would go back to the rounded edges ala the 11 Pro Max. The squared off sides of the iPhones now look great, but especially with the Pro Max sized devices, those rounded edges make one-handed use much better. This is most noticeable when using the camera. I feel Apple's strong sense of aesthetics trumped functionality with the iPhone's overall shape.

16 Pro is fine for me, haven't had any issues at all with it.

I have the Camera Control button set to double-click, to cut down on accidental activations. To be honest, I forget that the CC button is even there and I rarely use it, so I'm ambivalent about its value. I'd be fine without it, but it's convenient when I remember to use it.

I've also got the 16 Pro Max/512 and it's a winner. Just a tad bigger (externally) than I'd like but if I lost this one, I'd get another Max. Saves me from needing to carry a small iPad Air.

My daughter recently upgraded her 14PM to a 16PM. She appreciates that it feels lighter, and says she notices an improvement in the cameras. She's very pleased with it.

I like mine but its an iPhone and they don't change all that much. I had a 13 Pro Max before and its not a lot different to me.

I don't use the camera control button for anything other than prompting an AI search as I find it useless for photos.

In hindsight I probably could have bought a 15 Pro Max and saved a bit of cash without really missing out on any features. Lesson learned for next upgrade.
