For the "SR" dubbed MBP, there was a 2.6 GHz, Hi-res (1920x1200), 7,200 rpm HDD for the 17" MBP. This was an upgrade in processor, screen resolution, and HDD speed. Of note, this maxed out BTO MBP was available in stores, not just online. Now, with Penryn, there is another "Ultlimate" version of the 17" MBP with a 2.6 GHz, Hi-res LED, 7,200 rpm HDD, that is available in stores and not just BTO.

MY QUESTION: Is this something that Apple has a history of? I've only been following it for the past two revisions, but how long has Apple offered a high-end BTO laptop in stores? More importantly, is it likely that they will continue this pattern with the next "Montevina" MBP? I would rather buy in-store than have to deal with shipping.

Please and thanks!
