if I were to just rock it with silver/white 16 pro for months and let dust and lint and stuff get under the lip, will it scratch the titanium?

I think that was an issue with SS but less so aluminum and not sure about titanium.

also if I were to remove it a bunch rotating cases and to clean it , im sure the plastic case itself will crack but will continuously removing cause any issue too with scratches?

I think TPU cases while they yellow after a couple months to a year, have a softer material so they are less prone to this stuff but the clear is theoretically more durable and doesn't yellow at all over time which is a solid plus for the apple case

the silicone has that nice felt in there too but silicone is pretty soft as it is

Although grit may get into many other cases too, with the harder ones that don't have a TPU, silicone or similar sides the tighter fit and very little give result in more likelihood of harder grit rubbing harder and scratching the phones finish.

Haven't used a 100% hard shell case on a phone since scratching my iPhone 3GS removing one.

Plastic don't scratch metal.
That’s a bit of a misconception. Hardness scale of objects goes out the window when impact, weight, abrasion, and contaminants are involve. A plastic case rubbing with pressure on a metal or metallic coating can leave abrasions.

Yes OP, the Apple case and any hard plastic snap-on cases with enough pressure like that do leave abrasions marks. This is usually caused by contaminants like dust, or grit, but even the plastic alone micro-flexes on the metal with enough force to leave marks over time. People are incorrect simply citing hardness as a reason metal is safe from plastic.

Theres a million examples of people scratching Macbooks and phones with snap-on cases due to grip, flexing or force.

I dont think Apple case causes the same issue though, but I could be wrong. as the snap on cases for laptops. those seem to have harder edges , require a lot more force against flimsy thin LCD display top part of the clamshell

But valid consideration!

The 3GS was made of plastic.

I primarily used an Apple silicone case for over two years on my black 14 PM and no micro scratches on top or sides of frame. You know me, I don’t beat around the bush. However I do periodically clean the phone and case with lens brush to get anything out of the case.

Nope. Not a problem on SS or Ti. I wouldn’t let sand or something get in there and stay but as long as you take it off and clean it once in a while I don’t think you’re going to have a problem.

Even routinely switching up case ya wouldn’t think so?
