After dealing with 8+ out of the box cosmetic defects, I think it's time to get mine exchanged. I'll be a two minute walk from the Apple Store in one of the malls near me tomorrow. It says that there's no stock for tomorrow, and I don't want to have to obsess over getting exchanged. I've heard from a few people that they extra stock for exchanges. Is that true?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 16GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

best thing would be to just call them up and ask the question.

Yes, it is true. Apple thought about this scenario.

I had a genius bar appointment at 7:30pm monday. Obviously they were sold out of iPhones earlier than that. My iPhone was defective so the guy went back into the stock room and brought out a brand new sealed white iPhone. Exchanged, no questions asked.

When my 2G iPhone had problems a few months ago, they said they were sold out and they would call me when they got more. Might be different for 3G though.

They had plenty on the launch of the 2G, which is what's happening right now.
A few months ago they weren't even selling them.

The store I returned mine to (UK) said they have phone only (brown box) stock for faulty unit replacement. I asked if these units were new and was told yes as the phone has been on sale for too short a time to have refurbs. This unit is perfect......you should be ok.....I think they are expecting a "few" returns :D

They replaced mine, with a brand new one, still sealed. This was at 7:30pm when my genius bar appointment was. I think they keep a certain amount of phones depending on how many appointments they have throughout the day. Just to be safe.
