In the past, Apple has charged tax based on the unsubsidized price in CA, RI, and MA. I was planning on having to pay $40 tax here in MA like I had to in years past, but I just went to Apple's website and noticed something different:

The tax listed during checkout is only an estimate. In California and Rhode Island, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of the iPhone.

Hopefully it's not just a typo and they actually do only charge tax on the subsidized price. Anyone heard anything on this?

If you go to best buy, target, Walmart or radio shack they will not charge you sales tax on the full price of the phone if you get it subsidized.
Apple and AT&T do charge on the full amount.
So getting it elsewhere can save you $30-40 in taxes;)
