My friend says he is going to stay up and order at 1 AM and choose delivery for Saturday. I said it was a nice plan but I thought that I had read that Sat delivery isnt an option.

I don't know if anyone knows if it's an option or not yet...especially for the free shipping. We'll know in 6 hours... :)

they've delivered iphones on saturday in the past, I don't see why they would not do it this time.

Well shoot, if thats the case I may opt out of iPad hunting tomorrow and do the same. The only reason I opted out this time was because I thought I had read that Sat. was a no go.

I tried bringing up Apple store chat to ask and they have a 49 minute wait!

I'll be up at 12AM PST...have to see what delivery speeds are. If Sat delivery is available, I'm ordering.

I too would like to know the answer of this. I bet we won't know until 1 PST though. I imagine you'll be paying somewhat of a premium to get next day delivery. I would also be weary of simply selecting a next day option if it reads "ships in 24 hours," that definitely may not show up until Monday.

That's what I was thinking. I am hoping that I will see the option specifically denoting Saturday delivery. I dont mind paying 30 extra bucks give or take for Sat.

What if someone takes a shot with ordering and it doesnt come saturday but they find one in store. Can they refuse the delivery and be fully refunded?

Yeah, probably fully refunded sans shipping. Might be charged shipping back as well.

You also have to take into account that you are going to be shafting someone out of an iPad for a few days because you just OMGNEED one.

Just order it online and wait, or go to the store. Jeez.

Apple's first day strategy is very odd for this product launch. I guess we can thank all the Verizon pre-order people for that.

It's completely focused on retail outlets. Do they honestly expect lines at Wal-Marts, Targets and Best Buys? Really? Their launch strategy this go around is step back and reminds me of the original iPhone and 3G launches. Surely they make more money if you order from the online Apple Store?

The economy is tough and even a company such as Apple should be feeling that. They want to create the idea of scarcity and hype making people want it more than they may because of the idea that they HAVE to have it.

So forcing people to go into a retail store or wait for online delivery creates an idea of scarcity. People are waking up at 4am EST to order it, people are waiting outside stores in the rain on the East coast, who knows what else is going on? Of course I think they will have plenty of iPads to go around but the idea of scarcity may push some people to buy earlier than expected or even upgrade if their desired model isn't available.

Even I'm not immune, I've been waffling on 32GB or 64GB but if I can't get 32GB, I'll just get 64GB. I'm not going to wait hours in line though. My fall back plan if one of the many stores in the area doesn't come through for me is to order online and wait.

I assumed that iPads will ship directly from the factory in China, so it will be midday or early afternoon when the first order comes in. I just don't know, but if they leave China at 9pm, maybe FedEx can get it to you Saturday morning 24hrs later?

I just waited 45 min for Apple online chat -- they don't know the delivery options that will be available. Said that you'll have to see when you go to buy it.

This reminds me of last year when I was waiting outside store and everytime I asked an employee how many they had, they would say "We don't know". They eventually sold out but it took a few days to do so.

Just to add: I've ordered two refurb macbook pro's a week ago and they were ordered on a friday and received saturday. No special shipping added just the 'free shipping'.

They shipped from PA to NJ ground.
