does AppleCare with theft/loss pay if the theft/loss takes places outside of the US?

Check the terms and conditions for your state:

having read that document, I guess it covers everywhere... it said this: “Territory” means worldwide. Although, I guess the phone will NOT be covered if I take it to the ISS or any other planet. :(

I also noticed the exclusion clause stated "Acts of God" as a non-covered item...

does that mean if my iPhone is damaged from being hit with lightning, they won't cover it?

Several years ago, my car was struck by lightning(confirmed by the county fire inspector and GEICO's own adjuster) and the damage was over $5000, which GEICO paid without any issues. The damages extended from the trunk to the front seats. The headliner, seats and consoles burned. I did not discover the damage until the next morning when I got into the car.

That would be my understanding. Same goes for flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, etc.

interesting.... so if there's flooding going on in my area and I drop the phone in the flood water, it won't be covered.....

If you drop your phone into water, that's an act of you, not an "act of God" regardless of where the water came from 😉 The intent is that if you have to evacuate your home in a flood and you leave your phone there and it gets destroyed by the flood waters along with all your other earthly possessions that are in the house, THAT would not be a covered loss.

I had a friend who got her 11 pro max stolen back in 2019. From the told she told me, it was quite the hassle to get Apple to honor the Apple Care Loss and Theft plan. They eventually did do it for her, but again it was a massive hassle. I am assuming it would be worse for out of the U.S. cases.
