I have asked in a few other threads and haven't found a concrete answer so Im hoping to find someone who has experience with this.

So if I had the 1,000 message package and 3/4 thru the month I realize Im gonna go over the 1,000. Can I switch to the unlimited and be prorated. So I would be charged $7.50 for the first 3/4 month and $5 for the last 1/4. Is this not the case? If I did this would I be charged for both aka $30?

I have the 1500 plan and generally dont go over 1000 so saving $5 a month would be nice. But maybe every once and a while I may go over 1000.

Yes they prorate. You'll see the full charge then credits for the time in the month you didn't use that particular texting plan.

One more thing. I am not currently over 1000. If I switch to the $10 plan and backdate it, I will only be charged $10 for this month correct?

That's correct. Do it now online and you will see the change immediately. I switched from 200 to 1500 and back to 200 within one month.

what about for family plan unlimited?

if i am on the family plan unlimited, and both of us end up using less than 1000 each, can we both switch and backdate using the $10 for 1000 text plan ?

You will be charged the unlimited rate for however many days you keep that plan. so if the unlimited plan was 30$ and you used it for 3 days you would be charged 3$ prorated for those 3 days plus the prorated charge for the other 27 days yu were on the smaller 1000 text plan.

Only within the same billing month and probably only going to the first day the 1000 plan appeared (I'm guessing). But you really do not have to speculate. If you go to the website to make the change, it gives you all that information before you commit to the change. So it's best to find out yourself.

I was given the option to make the change as of the beginning billing date, ending billing date, or the date of the change. When I dropped a feature completely (global texting), the information on the web site said that it could not be done retroactively. That information is on the screen before you even tell them what you want done. So just try the website and see what it tells you.
