I know S3 used the optical sensor during workouts. But I always used my Bluetooth polar strap during workouts bc the builtin optical sensor was inferior to it, accuracy-wise.

Does anyone know if the S4 uses the electrical sensor on the back for workouts? Or will that be limited to working in tandem with the crown for the ekg feature? I really don’t like to rely on the optical sensor, even if Apple says this newer one is better.

Thoughts??

Thanks!!

I doubt it. You have to hold the crown to complete the circuit, there are only a few activities you could do this at the same time, running/walking/Irish dancing.

Thanks.

That's what I thought might be the case, but wasn't sure, and there's no information at all in the reviews etc.

FWIW, when I start a run on my S4 the optical sensor starts. Lame.

Have you tried doing a work out? Somehow my first workout with series 4 had better accuracy.
