does belkin thunderbolt 3 need external power supply (f4u095)-if so does anyone know the specs so I can look online for the right one-and source/s

Yes. Belkin says they ship with a 170W power supply. A quick search shows that it shout output 20V at 8.5A to the appropriate sized barrel connector.

An Amazon search should turn up some prospects.
