All iPads does buying the first gen ipad mini force ios 7 download?

Hi,

I was thinking about buying an ipad mini non-retina, and heard over the internet that apple is forcing ios 6 to be updated to ios 7 automatically (without user permission) with good wi-fi, and was wondering if it were true? In other words, would I be able to remain on ios 6 if i were to buy a first gen ipad mini?

The update to ios7 does download, but I've not seen a forced install on my ipad3 (still running iOS6). Just be aware that (1) it'll consume some of the storage and (2) I'm seeing apps/updates come out that require iOS7, something that may well increase in the coming months.

FWIW, the mini1's running iOS7 I played with in the Apple store yesterday seemed to run iOS7 fine.
