Does Core Animation make the iPhone 5 seem more sluggish?

The impression I get when using the iPhone 5 at the store is that I'd be able to get to he screen I want to get to if the animation wasn't there. It would be good to be able to control that.

Kind of the way the Genie effect isn't mandatory in OSX
