Does Epson Scan (Epson's included scanning software) work with non-Epson scanners?

My mother wants to get a new HP printer/scanner but she likes the Epson Scan app she has with her older Epson printer/scanner.

Do you know if the app limits itself only to Epson scanners?

Usually yes the app will only work with the Epson. Sometimes you can use a different printer or scanner driver to the brand you have but usually when they share a common manufacturer (like Lexmark used to make Dell printers apparently). But I know HP and Epson are not connected like that. Big rivals in fact.

The software is manufacturer specific. Also, Epson does change and tweak the drivers for each of their models.
