I'm getting a Thunderbolt display with HD webcam.

I never use FaceTime since I can't rely on my friends and family members getting macs.

The new Skype 5.3 offers HD calling with an HD webcam, which I frequently use with a Logitech HD webcam I bought.

Will my friends/family be able to see my in HD through Skype if I use the HD webcam that comes with the TB display, or has this been disabled by Apple to force people to use FaceTime?

i have the new mbp with the hd camera and i Skype a lot and people say my quality of the camera has changed a lot from what i used to have. i don't know if the are the same cameras in thunderbolt and mbp but no problems with Skype 5.3

just looked and i have the 5.4 beta

What sort of webcam did you have before?
