I have a 5 that is perfect minus the screen (dead pixel at the bottom, wavy/grainy screen).

I know that the 5 is much easier to repair than the 4/4s and more like 3g/3gs where the front screen comes off and can be swapped in minutes.

Have they started doing this yet?

I would be much more comfortable doing this than a whole swap, given that I don't want one with same issues and something else on top of it.

Yeah, there was a story on iMore about this; new procedure for the iPhone 5. makes sense as it will save them money over just handing out whole refurb (or new, at least right now) units just to deal with a defective screen.

why they may do this, being that it is basically a brand new device (only a few weeks old), they will probably try to just give you a new phone. If it is nick and scratch free I would ask for the repair though.

I saw that article and 9to5 is usually pretty accurate when it comes to retail info.

But I'm just wondering when that will start.

Maybe i should hold off on the swap game until then
