I am going to Europe in a few days and wanted to know if Geotagging your photos counts against your 3G Data Service allottment? If it does... then I should probably turn off Locate Me.

It'll log the photo's location with the GPS so just taking pictures won't use data. If you want to load google maps it'll probably use 3G to download the map.

When triangulation is used, it will require the use of your data plan. There is more than one way the iPhone uses to determine the user's location.

Using Assisted GPS doesn't mean it uses data. The position of cell towers help is find its location but it doesn't use any data. If you turn off data on your phone photos will still be tagged with location.

Just turned off 3G and cellular data and wi-fi so no data could be downloaded and took 20 pics... All of them were correctly located on the places tab in photos. Because it's GPS, you know like a Tom-tom, they aren't connected to a network or the internet.
