I used to keep the GPS on my 3GS turned off all the time but it seems like now it is only active when an app is actually needing to use it. If I'm not using any of those apps at the moment, does it drain any additional battery? It's annoying having to go back into Settings to turn it on/off so if it is managing like it should, only with apps that need it, that is great.

Nope. I have mine on all the time and my battery lasts me all day. If the GPS was always active the battery would last just a few hours.

Good to hear. I know that in the past that wasn't always the case. No reason for me to turn it off now basically.
