Does iBooks saves deleted pdf and epub?

Hi, I heavily use iBooks as a study tool for epubs and pdfs. I delete a lot of them after I highlighted them.

I noticed that if I download an epub that I previously had and highlighted, the highlights are still there. It's like the epub was not really deleted, but just hidden...

So I'm wondering how to delete them completely? The usage settings tells me that I have more than 300 Mb of data in Ibooks but I only have like 30 epubs and pdf and most of them are less than a few Mb.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about free epubs and pdfs that I got from a website, not about book samples.

I don't believe they do. It would be nice if they could, I'm missing a few that I could I've downloaded and scanned that are now missing.

If ibooks does completely delete my epubs, how do you explain that my highlights are still there? I even opens where I left off.

You've got me maybe the epubs work different than the PDFs. I've only uploaded PDFs and those once they're gone are gone.
