Hey there,

I was looking forward to move out of Dropbox to iCloud, but I just realised all the folders I added to iCloud got their Date Modified changed to the date they were uploaded… Main laptop running 10.15.7. As I have an older computer still running 10.12 which also syncs to iCloud, and before I do more tests, does this happen for everybody?? Or could it be something from my setup?

Not something I’m willing to accept for iCloud :(

Thanks for your feedback!

So did some more research and tests. It has been reported a few times on the Internet, starting with Mojave.

Here's what I tried:
- disabled internet on the laptop running 10.15.7
- uploaded an older folder on an older computer running 10.12.6: behaviour differed as the original Date Modified was kept.
- waited 15 minutes and re-enabled internet on the 10.15.7 laptop: the Date Modified of this folder is now the date of upload, it still didn’t change on the computer running 10.12.6
- 15 minutes later: tried “Remove Download” on the 10.15.7 laptop, followed by Download Now => in both cases the Date Modified was kept and set to the date of first upload (it switches for a split second to “now” then reverts).

Date Created behaved as it should during all those steps, as did the dates for files within those folders.

Before sending this feedback to Apple, would appreciate if someone could check the behavior on their machine, especially on Big Sur: simply try to copy an older folder to your iCloud Drive, does its "modified date" change? Thanks!
