I'm confused. The new iMac has a Radeon 9600. The Core Image page at http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/ says the following:

Core Image-capable graphics cards include:
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
ATI Radeon 9600 XT, 9800 XT, X800 XT
nVidia GeForce FX Go 5200
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL

So, does the Radeon 9600 support Core Image? Is this the same as a Mobility Radeon 9700 or a Radeon 9600 XT? Or does the new iMac's video card still not fully support Core Image?

TIA.

Well they just upgraded it so I assume it does...

BUT if it fits that general category it does...

BUT IT NEEDS THE RIPPLE EFFECT!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's not mentioned on Apples website but in the thread about the new iMacs releases someone confirmed that it did support Core Image. Whether or not that is good enough for you I don't know but I would be shocked if Apple would upgrade their top selling machine with something that doesn't run on their existing OS.

I've been meaning to ask, what is this core image I keep hearing of?

Recommend you go to the arstechnica web site and read their review of Tiger after reading the Apple PR. Skim over as much of the technical detail in the Ars review as you wish. Even picking up the high points will give you a greater appreciation for what Core Image and other Apple PR buzzwords mean under the hood.

The 9600 not the same as a 9600XT, its a bit slower, but as you would expect it does support Core Image. Someone from ATI has confirmed that it does on www.xlr8yourmac.com. It also supports Quartz 2D Extreme, which Tiger doesn't have yet, but is expected in the first update.
