Does iPhone still drain when on car power after 2.1?

I was disapointed to read that the iPhone cannot charge quickly enough in the car and drains while being used on DC power. Has anyone tested to see if this is still the case? With Steve's claim of dramatically better battery life, I was hoping this has been resolved too.

It only does this when using the GPS. Otherwise the phone charges in the car.
