Hello MacRumors!

Ben Here. I just switched from windows to Mac less than a week ago! Exciting stuff! I have a question though...

When I transferred all my files to my mac, I had about 100 picture folders in the "my pictures" directory. When I tried to open all those 100 picture folders in iPhoto, it imported them.

My question is:
Does iPhoto link those pictures? Or does iPhoto make another copy of the pictures in iPhoto?

Thanks for the help and I'm glad to be a part of the forums!

IIRC, its default behavior is to make a copy of them, but you can change that.

Check the iPhoto preferences, I think what you're looking for is on the Advanced tab.

is there any way to manage my photos within iPhoto?

For example:

When I delete a photo in iPhoto, can it also delete the root picture as well?

When you delete a photo in iPhoto, it initially goes into the iPhoto trash(it's in the sidebar). Only when you empty that trash is when it is deleted from your Mac.
