When I plug in my old 2G iPhone it shows a iPhone icon in the devices list on the left.

But when I plug in my iPhone 3G it shows a camera icon.

Does this happen with anyone else's iPhone 3G?

mine does the same thing... kind of strange, considering there's an icon for it in iTunes

here's a screenshot

There is in fact an iPhoto (not iPhone) update today for 7.1.4... it does not, however, "fix" this, as my screenshot above was taken using the latest version of iPhoto

Yeah I'm using the newest updated version of iPhoto 7.1.4 (371) and it still shows a camera icon.

I've also tried it with both different versions of the iPhone 2.0 firmware.

I was on the phone to apple telephone support and mentioned it to the guy I was speaking to and he said it was weird, but didn't know why it was happening.

I'm confused.

I haven't heard anything of an iPhone software update, but have received an iPhoto update?
BLACK MAC is the one who is confused, ignore it
there is no iphone update and the moment

why does the difference in icon matter anyway? or are you just wondering...

Yeah just wondering really. It's not a problem, however when I've got a few devices plugged in, it's much easier to just recognise the icon/colours instead of reading the device name. But it's definitely not a problem, a 'puzzle' I'd call it.

fine. just wondering. personally, i have 1 camera and the iphone, and have never had them plugged in together

yeah, like jk00, I don't see it as a problem or anything, but it would be a nice added feature... it seems that iPhoto is using the camera icon for any device though, which is weird. For example, in my screen shot above, I have my iPhone plugged in, as well as a CompactFlash card in my memory card reader... yet both show a camera icon, although neither is actually a camera
