I have a PowerMac G5 and a PowerBook G4 w/o webcams, and looking at buying the external firewire isight from apple. Does it work with Skype? I know iChat works, but what about Skype? Also, can I use my Snowball with the isight or not?

I have an old firewire iSight and it worked just fine on my old 2006 Mac Pro with Skype. However, after trying to put it on my new 2009 Mac Pro (firewire 800 only-had to use a firewire adapter) - it wouldn't work.

Anyway, where are you going to buy a Firewire iSight? AFAIK Apple hasn't sold that device for about 4 years. You can still get them on Amazon etc, but they're about 3-4x the price of most USB webcams that have far better performance and specs.

I replaced it with a Logitech Vision Pro and that works with all the same video applications, including Skype, just fine. Better than the iSight ever did.

I have a Powermac dual 1.8 and Macbook core duo. In both cases the firewire iSight works like charm...
