Does iTunes 9 force update to iphone 3.1?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for it. But i can't seem to find info on here of wheather or not if i upgrade to iTunes 9 that it will force me to put iphone 3.1 OS on my iphone.

I want to keep my tethering in 3.0! Any help? If i don't upgrade to itunes 9 i can't download any video content anymore with the older version!

No, it won't force an update. It will notify you of available updates as usual, but you don't have to install them.
