Does iTunes delete backups done on the same day?

If I backup my iPhone in the morning, then restore from a backup I did last week, then back the phone up again in the afternoon, will iTunes delete the backup I created in the morning? Will I basically lose everything that happened in the last week?
 
Well einstein, the other forums say it will happen. And I can now attest that it will happen because I've seen it first hand.
