Does iTunes have to be installed to JB 4.2.1?

Trying to do this at work since I have a PPC mac at home (redsn0w not supported) but windows boxes at work.

iPad seems to be going into DFU mode but I don't see cydia icon, no pineapple logo, won't boot jailbroken, so I don't think it's working.

Should I install iTunes?

Yup need to have iTunes for limera1n and greenpois0n to work. From what I understand the jailbreak tools need the iTunes drivers.....
