Does Live Photos still mess with Low Light Pictures?

I heard about this ever since Live Photos became available on the iPhone 6s... I'm not sure if this was a rumor, or not true.... or if Apple released an update to fix this or.... if this is still the case. Live Photos make low light photos darker.

I love the Live Photos feature but also love taking low light pictures, so I'm very curious.
