Hi,

I am using Photogene on iOs 4.2.1 ipad and it requires Location Services to be on to access certain metadata for the image browser.

I'd like to turn off location services because of the battery drain I experienced on the 3g when having it turned on.

One developer stated that his app does not activate the GPS chip when accessing metadata(like location data) for his photo browser and thus would not cause battery drain.

My question is: does location services only activate the GPS when a map app(or similar) requires GPS data? Can I have it turned on all the time without causing unnecessary battery drain?

I am trying to maximize battery life because I often have to have wifi turned on too.
