Hi, I am trying to decide between white and black. I watched a video stating that the black is a fingerprint magnet. I also read a post saying that the white color mouse developed some stain or mark over time under the plastic cover. Perhaps those are just individual isolated cases. Does the white version discolour over time? Is the black one a really fingerprint magnet?

I bought mine when they first came out in 2015 and used it about four or five hours a day every day until a couple months ago when I switched to a Logitech mouse and my Magic Mouse 2 looks like brand new with zero discoloration or staining.

Is yours white or black?

Thanks. My Master MX3 white discolors badly even I wash my hands often.

I use MM 1 at work and MM 2 at home. Both use the same basic white shell. I haven’t seen discoloration on either.

If he got it in 2015 when the MM2 first came out, it would have to be white. The black version was released with the iMac Pro in December, 2017.

Likewise, I've been using the Magic Mouse (v1 and v2, including both the white and black versions of v2) for years with no discoloration at all. I haven't really noticed a fingerprint issue with the black version, BTW.

Thanks. Is MM3 a 2-button or 3-button mouse under Mac, Windows and Linux? Does not say on the specs.

It's a computer mouse. It's bound to pick up scratches with heavy use. The scratches will show up in certain lighting conditions more than others just like scratches on anything (not just computer mice).

If scratches on mice really bother you, buy five $20 cheapos and discard yearly. You probably won't get the Magic Mouse-specific Gestures, but then maybe you don't care about such matters.

My guess is that most scratches actually come when the mouse isn't being used, abrasion during transport. If you want to preserve the aesthetics as much as possible, stick your mouse in a cloth bag before you shove it into your backpack, etc.

That has worked really well for my Magic Mouse 1. The plastic rails on the bottom exhibit wear naturally but the rest of the device is pristine.

Good idea!
