Does my 30 day exchange start on the day I receive my phone?

If I infact come up with another 100 to spend on upgrading my 16GB to 32GB can I do this? I also ordered Applecare+ with my phone would that implicate?

My phone is also set to come on Oct 5.. So If you had luck pre-ordering at a different store (Then Apple.com) please feel free to say.
