Hey guys!
So I bought a second-hand jet black iPhone 7 since the prices are dropping. It was in great condition, cheap enough, and I've always wanted that color.
Since it already has a few scratches and I'm going to be using it for at least one more year (even though I'd like a bigger screen I'm not fond of the way the 8 looks and I dread its price). So I decided to put a sticker on the Apple logo for the looks, as well as a clear case on it (I'm female, for the record). The case is designed in a way such as there is no watermark problem.
But from what I've read, the consensus here seems to be that the Jet Black in a clear case looks disgustingly ugly! I quite like mine (its newness probably comes into play), but I'm not ashamed to say I do care what people think. It's not "just a phone" to me, I dig its looks, and others do as well.
So I'm asking you guys for your opinion on the customization please, and what I could do to make it better (is caseless really the way to go? I've seen pretty scary photos). Be honest! (no, this is not a joke, sorry if it's too much)
Sorry for the quality, that's what happens when your iPhone is your main camera...

EDIT: Updated a file where you can actually see well the part that counts, the back. I've taken the best angle I could and tweaked a little bit on Photoshop so it really looks like it is in ambient light : the contrast with the black from the camera angle, the color... and you might realize that there's a bit of a lip on the back too which makes it more comfortable, iPhone 5-like, to hold.

So this is how the case looks most of the time. If I hold it in my face, it is dark and the logo is bluer and shinier. If it reflects lightbulbs, you can't tell it's black. I kind of like it this way.
In some photos, you can also see the yellowing, which isn't bothering me too much since the phone is black. So there is some good and some bad, my question is, do you guys find it pretty? What would you change about it? Thank you!

I hate cases and have regrettably used them only a few times.

My 6s+ has never been in a case in the two years I've owned it and looks the same as when I got it.

All that matters though is what YOU think.

If you like how it looks in the case then your opinion is all that matters. It's your phone and your case. Do what you like not what you think others think you should do.

The last 2 photos are great, but the first one is too blurry. Plus, the window reflecting on the case does not help.

For the better part of the last year I have went through 3 different color Iphone 7’s and 7 Plus.

I went from a matte black 7 Plus to a jet black 7 Plus within the past 2 months. The jet black 7 Plus actually has 1 year and 2 months of AppleCare + left on it.

Anyways to make long story short ... the jet black is most definitely been my favorite. Matte black is great but jet black is wonderful and beautiful. That said the whole point to my post is this. If you go to eBay or amazon or Walmart.com for that matter they sale screen protectors that come for the front and back of the device. If you put one of those on the back of your jet black 7 then it can never get scratched and can be used ceaseless without worry... I’m only talking about the back of the phone. I’ve never been huge on tempered glass screen protectors and cases for my phones... always went ceaseless and mostly completely naked.

I had a 6+ for almost a year with a screen protector on it.

Dropped it on asphalt and it landed face down. Screen protector did it's job and protected…itself. Screen was completely shattered behind the screen protector which didn't have a scratch on it.

About the only good to come of that was that the screen protector protected my fingers from the sharp glass. :D

Your first photo is not focused enough to make a judgement call on that. Perhaps a more up close and focused picture for more feedback.

I do love the phone! It's not as pretty as a naked and scratchless, jet black, but I think it looks pretty nice even this way. However, I do want to know and care what people think, otherwise I'd be taking walks butt naked in August! It's a pretty extreme comparison, but it's important for me my dear new phone to look nice. :)

The last 2 photos are great, but the first one is too blurry. Plus, the window reflecting on the case does not help.
You're perfectly right! I was in a bit of a hurry this morning when I took the back pic, I'm just now realizing you can't actually see much. I'm editing the post now to add a photo I took the time to take. Thanks for the heads up

Oh wow, that would be great! however, I'm a bit confused, are you talking about glass full-body screen protectors? It would be great, but I imagine it wouldn't stick too well on the sides! As for skins, I've heard they peel along with the Apple logo and iPhone writing, and most importantly, they don't do much against drops :( I'm cursed with clumsiness so I'd rather have some scratches from the previous owner, the case, myself when I take it out to admire it... It's fine for now, there aren't any deep ones. Knock on wood, I've seen some pretty trashed up Jet Black iPhones while searching for the one!

Nah I’m not talking about glass ... it’s plastic similar to what Zagg used to put out but without the “orange peel” effect.

I have seen those videos of skins pulling off the iPhone writing on the back of the phone, but this one has not. I’ve replaced it once only because of my own OCD...

This is why I’m not huge on tempered glass screen protectors. Of course we want our phone screen protected from a drop not our screen protector...

Plus regardless of whether they’re .3mm or .2mm thin they’re not thin enough and make for a weird feeling on the front of the phone IMO

I agree with you 100%

I have seen pictures of your iPhone's. You take Good care of your iPhone's.

This is like worrying about and hoping to impress a front desk clerk with your Black Centurian Amex card.

...Said the guy with Donald Trump as his avatar.
Thanks for pointing that out. I got a new avatar. Customization ftw!

Anways, I'm glad my thread generated a few discussions... But could you guys please be more precise about if you actually liiike my phone or not?:D

Would it look better with a skin on the back instead of the case?
Unfortunately (in this scenario) I'm french, so the good ones cost an arm and a leg to ship here, and I think I would still be tempted to put a case on it when I'm out for the sake of protection. Protecting it from the case and dust scratching it? Maybe but I think it's a bit too much. Did anyone get visible/deep scratches with their Jet Black instead of a case? That would annoy me!

Does the clear case look okay or does it ruin the look of the phone?
Should I keep the blue shiny sticker on? I find it pretty and adds a nice touch but it does ruin the all-black design, is it unclassy?

The most important might be that I like it, but I'm also interested to know what other people think too and I might even get a few interesting suggestions, such as the skin-on-the-back one! :)

Your phone looks good, and take out of your mind what other people think about it. It doesn't matter anyway, it
won't change your life one bit.

Thanks for your opinion
Although I don't want to argue about it, I see it a bit like asking for fashion advice, except that with my phone instead of clothes.

It might be dumb but I still want to know if the majority of people
1) like the clear case of think I should either get another one, a skin, or take it off (each has its drawbacks but if the case really ruins the looks I'll take it off)
2) think the shiny blue logo complements the phone well or destroys its sleek seamless look
I guess I'm rambling but I'm so happy about my new phone I want it to look the best!

I think you know the answer mate Looks amazing! It's a shame the corners seem to have worn off but it's still cool as hell. Gold is my least favorite iPhone color, naked I see it like a yellowed silver one, but this is just art! Where'd you get that case from if you don't mind me asking?

You could have waited 2 weeks and got it for much cheaper, probably the worst time to buy an iPhone

Depends how you look at it. This time of year, there are very good deals on the current iPhone 7 models that have major discounts and or promotional trades. It depends what somebody wants, but ultimately, this time of year carriers and third-party retailers are looking to liquidate stock, in order to make room for the new iPhone. I would actually suggest for those who are wanting an iPhone 7, this is the time to purchase one.

you like it huh :)

i got from oversea but when i came back usa i search on ebay and cost
only 5 bucks $

that deal,price

I got it on a French Craigslist-like website, and I got an iPhone 7 with scratches no deeper than micro abrasions for little more than the price for an iPhone SE! And here I am, very happy and looking for opinions or suggestions on its looks since I wanted jet black since the day it was released...

And thanks for the case. For that price I definitely want one!
