I know this is a dumb question that i should know since i bought the silly computer - but,

does my macpro have the capability to burn dual layer dvd's?

i looked in the system profiler under disc burning and got:

just not sure how to decipher it -
thanks !!!

I don't know why it doesn't list +DL (even my lowly mini does), but that drive and all drives on mac pros should burn dual layer disks.

The Mac pro has always shipped with a 16x SuperDrive with double layer support - as the spec page says...

I've certainly burned double layer disks on mine (got it when the Mac pro was first introduced over a year ago).

There's something very strange there - what's with the 0KB cache? Mine's got the Sony drive in as mentioned by someone else a bit earlier in this thread and it clearly lists +R and +RW along with +R DL. I'd say you've got the wrong drive in there!

yeah i dont get it because both my new computers are doing it - both have 0 cache and no R DL

and what's odd is it all has -R vs all you guy having +R?

...in the system profiler under disc burning and got:

OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A:

which after a quick google search provides THIS review of your drive which does look indeed like a DL burner.

dvd-ram support also, though don't know where you would find media for that sort of thing?!

you should be able to get the entire movie on one disc...

awesome man, thank you :)

any ideas on why both my macbook pro and my macpro don't list it under system profiler?

i made an appointment at the "Genius Bar" for saturday - think it'd be futile to keep the appointment?
