I have AppleCare on my 2020 11” iPad Pro. I purchased an M1 iPad which I have also purchased AppleCare for. I am intending to sell my 2020 iPad and cancel my AppleCare contract. Does my new AppleCare policy cover my already-owned Magic Keyboard and pencil?
 
I don’t think it does. I’m almost positive it only covers accessories purchased with the device.

This. AppleCare only covers accessories purchased with the Mac / iPad / iPhone. I had an almost 3 year old USB-C to lightning cable replaced under warranty because it was bought on the same receipt as my MBP.

What about accessories purchases on the same day as the product was delivered
 
I spoke to an apple specialist and they said that the magic keyboard is covered under Applecare+. I bought my iPad and then added the AppleCare+ o the day it was delivered, and Apple did confirm via chat that the magic keyboard is covered.

this is from my AppleCare+ agreement:

The Plan covers the following equipment (collectively, the “Covered Equipment”): (i) the Apple TV, Apple Watch, HomePod, iPad (including an Apple Pencil and an Apple-branded iPad keyboard purchased for use with your iPad, referred to as “iPad Input Devices”), iPhone, iPod, or the Apple- or Beats-branded headphones listed on your Plan Confirmation (“Covered Device”), (ii) the accessories contained inside the original packaging of your Covered Device, and (iii) for Monthly Plans with an original Plan purchase date prior to September 2020 only, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, and an AirPort Time Capsule if used with a HomePod or an iPad that is a Covered Device and purchased no earlier than two years before the HomePod or the iPad (“Connectivity Device”).

Great to know. I just bought a white Magic Keyboard alongside my iPad Pro, so it’ll be covered.
 
when I ordered my Ipad pro for pIckup only I didnt order a keyboard so I asked if I need to cancel and reorder with both items on same order they said its not a problem just order The Keyboard when its in stock local pickup and it will b covered :) thought it had to be with in 14 days glad its up to 60 days :)
 
I can CONFIRM magic keyboard is cover on your Applecare plus if you bought it 1 year ago ! I spoke with Applecare to add my July 2020 Magic Keyboard to my new Ipad pro m1. Without problem it is added and visible on checkcoverage.
 
Apple seem to not have staff that know the policy. I was debating between logitech keyboard and magic keyboard and was going to be potentially swayed by warranty coverage. Chatted to Apple support and they told me that this policy had ended and nothing extra is covered, only iPad. :confused:

That’s in direct contradiction to the current AC+ policy (effective 4/20/21 and previous versions) that covers Apple-branded keyboards and other accessories to be used with the iPad:

No. The warranty needs to be purchased within 60 days, there is nothing said about the 'input' accessories which is the technical term Apple uses to cover both Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard folio. Sounds like as long as the device is used in conjunction with the iPad, it's covered.

When in doubt, contact the Applecare Agreement Team by calling the main support number and ask to be transferred. The Agreement Team are the experts.

Yes, I know that AC+ warranty needs to be purchased within 60 days. I posted that earlier. It is my current interpretation of the AC+ legalese as currently written, that the accessories need to be purchased within 60 days as well. I very well may be wrong on that as the wording is vague as currently written.

As WildSky just posted, it is best to call Apple Support and request to speak to The Agreement Team that handles these kind of questions.
 
I just bought AppleCare+ for my 2021 iPP 12.9. It states clearly that the MKK and Pencil are included, and says nothing about whether I bought them with the iPP or not.

There is nothing about when the pencil or keyboard were purchased.

I wasn't clear if you were given something in addition to the AC+ PDF. That is why I asked.

FWIW: years ago I had a MacBook Pro with AppleCare (and that was before AppleCare+). It included the Apple Keyboard (the USB version). I had bought that keyboard for use before I ever had the MacBook Pro and when a key failed the Apple Store replaced it, no questions asked.

I fully expect that my MKB (which I purchased at the same time, but not on the same invoice, only due to glitches with Apple ordering) and my pencil (which I purchased late 2019 with my 2018 iPP 11) are all covered as long as I pay my $7.99 monthly fee. There is nothing in my contract to the contrary that I can see.

I’m just curious, what verbiage makes you think that? I cannot find it I’m just curious why one might think that.

Don’t get your hope up on Logitech customer service when it comes to warranty claims either. Dealing with them has been frustrating and very time consuming to say the least.
 
General Apple support is not always properly trained on the ins and outs of AC policies. When a new Apple support rep doesn’t know an answer, and to keep up their metrics, they may be under pressure to give a quick answer rather than the right answer. If a support rep asks a coworker for help with a policy question, again it could be completely wrong. That can be true at a lot of companies, not just Apple. The team manager may catch the inaccuracy when reviewing the call or chat log, and help to educate the rep, but they’re not going to contact you to correct the misinformation.

It seems there is generally a disconnect in training and policy education between retail, support, and specialized teams like the Applecare Agreement Team. For Applecare, just contact the Agreement Team first and you’ll save a lot of time and frustration.
