Most of what Jobs said about the more technical side of what's available was way over my head. What I want to know, however, is if we should expect Skype on the iPhone in June for free.

Anybody see and roadblocks to this, either technical or in terms of the App Store?

Steve Jobs himself said that VoIP is possible over WiFi, but they will block it over EDGE.

So somebody is going to have to come out with an EDGE unlocking program for Skype. :)

I guess Apple has things locked up pretty tight by distributing software only through the App Store.

All in all, this should be great.

Yeah, sure. I'm willing to bet anything that AT&T has ways of blocking VOIP on their own network.

So unlock away...it won't get you anything.

I'm mildly surprised they let them do it over Wi-Fi, but I guess Apple has more control over this than I thought.

SDK enables any company to create and build new, revolutionary applications on a cutting-edge mobile device.

(I tried to sound like Steve Jobs there. Any comments?)

Comment: Sounds about right.

I emailed skype asking if they would make an iphone app when the sdk comes out and they said no.

Boom! There it is, truly great Wi-fi VoIP in addition to a widescreen iPod, a revolutionary phone, and a breakthrough internet device

Since all EDGE traffic is routed through AT&T's systems, I'm sure they will filter/block VoIP traffic.
As for WiFi, AT&T has no control over that, so they could probably care less what you do on WiFi.
