Does new T-Mobile iPhone 4S have better connection/network than old unlocked 4S?

I'm on T-Mobile and have an old unlocked iPhone 4S from a year ago. Does the new T-Mobile iPhone 4S have a better connection/network?

I called T-Mobile and the customer service rep said it does, but customer service reps are not always the most informed.

There is no T-Mobile 4S. It's still the same model with no AWS band support. That's why it's only sold in select areas where T-Mobile has refarmed its towers.
