Greetings.

I should be receiving my iPhone 14 Pro Max sometime early next week.

One major concern I have is that I don't have Wi-Fi access.

Step two on these instructions provided by Apple seems to suggest I don't need it.

However, once I activate my iPhone 14 Pro Max, won't that immediately turn off the cellular connection on my iPhone 13 Pro Max?

This concerns me so much that I'm willing to keep my iPhone 14 Pro Max in its box when I receive it until I can get to a T-Mobile store and let them take care of it for me.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, once the new phone is activated the old phone no longer has cellular service. It’s just like if you swap a physical SIM.

I’m not sure if Wi-Fi is required, but I think you’re going to need it. I know you don’t need a network like at your home because it can be done over public Wi-Fi. I’ve done it at the Apple Store.

The transfer only pushes over settings and maybe something else but every app is downloaded after this. You’re going to be downloading, however many apps you have on your phone. I guess if you’re downtown in a big city and have mmWave 5G then you might be OK but otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it.

Perhaps someone who has done this without Wi-Fi can comment.

You don't need wifi. iPhone Quick Start will create an ad hoc network to transfer everything between the two phones, including your cell service. When it's complete, your 14 Pro Max is active and your 13 Pro Max is not.

Just to clarify, WiFi will still be required to download the apps from the App Store, right?

I think you will or cellular. I think it just puts placeholders on the new device and then downloads the apps, but I'm not totally sure. I always do everything in the Apple Store too

I do remember Over cellular though you would have to tap on each app to start its download

I changed from my iPhone 13 mini to the 14 pro with no WiFi. Used quick transfer and it all worked just fine. Once the esim transferred over I just clicked on the apps to have them download.
