I've been told by OWC that the reason my Voyager Q drive dock doesn't pass thru bus power over firewire is because of the 934DSP chipset it's using. Anybody heard this?
the idea is that you have Voyager Q as the first powered FW device in the chain and then plug something into the other FW800 port of the Voyager Q. In the past when I've done this I don't get bus power.
If it's true that this is because of the 934DSP chipset then I don't want to purchase any external enclosure that has this chipset.
I believe the 934DSP is the one that also offers eSata in addition to Firewire and USB.
These days these are probably the best bang for the buck but if I cannot pass thru bus power I don't want to touch it.
