Hi,

I am intersted in a June 2013 Air 11 on apple site but concerned about aging battery. Does apple replace the batteries on older refurb laptops with new batteries. I know lithium batteries have a certain lifespan whether used or not.

I believe that if the battery goes below 80% of its design capacity with less than 1000 charge cycles on it while the laptop is still under warranty, Apple will replace the battery for you for free.

So it doesn't really matter--if they give you a sub-par battery you can just make them replace it. :)

That's very true my battery had 7 cycles apple ended up replacing a lot if things in my macbook when I sent it in I think like 6 different things

I just ordered a refurb, how can you tell if it is below 80% with less than 1000 charge cycles?

A lot of people on this forum recommend a program called CoconutBattery (sp?) but I use a program called Battery Health that I think you can find in the App Store. I'm sure both just read out the same information.

I have bought two 11" refurb and both had practically new batteries (2 cycles each). Interestingly though on my 2013 11" according to coconutbattery, the battery is almost one year older than the Macbook itself....

So far I am at about 120 cycles and the capacity goes a bit up and down between 90 and 98%. So far not so bad :)

Refurb = new battery

They usually have 2-3 cycles on them where they have run some tests on the battery and the hardware of the refurb before sending it out. This is also true of new macbooks.
